| Speaker Program and ClassesThe Arboretum offers a speaker program as well as classes and workshops on a regular basis. Those currently scheduled are shown below. Note that speaker presentations are free and do not require registration. Registration for workshops and classes is generally free for Arboretum members and a nominal cost for non-members. Workshops may have a small materials fee.

Most classes are held in the lower-level classroom at Lake Wilderness Lodge, 22500 SE 248th Street or at the Arboretum Nursery, 22520 SE 248th Street in Maple Valley. Marty Wingate - Great Gardens Save Water Thoughtful preparation for a new garden or a renovation of even small areas can turn a tired, time-consuming garden into a beauty - both in looks and in maintenance. A garden that's designed with water use in mind - choosing good plant companions and siting them well - goes a long way to taking care of itself. Marty Wingate is a garden writer; her features appear weekly in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, she writes for national magazines and has authored of three books. Marty has a master's degree in urban horticulture from the University of Washington. She leads garden tours to England, Scotland and Ireland, and North American destinations. And the result? A beautiful garden plus cleaner water for all. Get with the flow and learn the ins-and-outs of rain gardens. Known for her fun and light-hearted approach to gardening, Marianne Binetti has a degree in horticulture from WSU and is the author of nine books on gardening, including her latest, "Container Gardening for Washington and Oregon." She makes regular appearances on the HGTV show "Gardening by the Yard," writes for numerous magazines and writes a syndicated newspaper column plus leads garden tours to world-wide destinations. Specific day and fees TBD. These wreaths are very easy to make and the frames are usable for several seasons. We will spend some time collecting greenery and fall leaves from the Arboretum to use to make your own ornamental wreath. Pre-registration is required. So what the heck is a trunk show? Is Brett going to spend an hour talking about tree trunks? Not exactly. The "trunk show" is a program in which Brett piles a table or two (or three or four ...) with plants. As he talks about native plants and why you should choose natives over exotics, Brett lifts examples from his stash, talking about each one and fielding any questions from the audience. Brett is the owner of Green Man Gardens and co-author of several short books on gardening for wildlife in Western Washington.
