Debbie Fuchs - New Board Member   (Posted 2/7/2010)
New LWAF Board member and recording secretary, Debbie Fuchs, a 6-year resident of Maple Valley, graduated from WSU with a degree in Business Information Systems. After graduation, she worked at Boeing as a computer programmer for almost 7 years before deciding to stay at home to raise her 3 children. Eleven years of homeschooling later, her two 14-year-olds are still learning from Mom at home, while their 17-year-old brother has moved on to the Running Start program at Green River Community College.

Debbie got involved at the Arboretum helping on Wednesday mornings in the summer about 2 years ago when her two boys needed community service hours for advancement in Boy Scouts. This involvement led to her son Kevin's Eagle scout project this past spring, when he built a beautiful arbor at the entrance of the Western Azalea garden.

Debbie love trees, flowers and gardens, and enjoys walking and jogging through the arboretum gardens and trails. Spending time in the arboretum has given her some good ideas for her own yard. Since the addition of four new fruit trees in her yard at home, she is looking forward to learning more about tree pruning from other Arboretum vets. Debbie says, "Working with the wonderful arboretum volunteers has given me a stronger feeling of connection to the community. It's been exciting watching the changes at the arboretum in the last six years, and, as the new recording secretary, I'm now looking forward to being a part of the progress in the years to come."
